GONDAN DELIVERS ADVANCED TRAWLER TO NORWAY

Wednesday, April 14, 2021

Spanish shipbuilder Astilleros Gondan has handed over its latest newbuild, a freezing stern trawler, to Norwegian company Engenes Fiskeriselskap, for whom it will operate in Northern Atlantic and Arctic waters.

This new vessel, designed by Kongsberg Maritime – in charge also of supplying the main equipment – has a length of 69.9m and a beam of 16m. Built in steel with aluminium superstructure, the stern trawler, named Magne Arvesen, will operate mainly in Northern Atlantic, Barents Sea and Svalbard waters. With accommodation for 29 people, the trawler will be equipped with automated fish processing equipment and a freezing hold capacity of 1400m3. The vessel is classified by the DNV and is Ice class certified.

The global situation generated as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic has represented a challenge for the company, which managed to successfully achieve the fulfilment of the contract, and moving forward in compliance with all regulations, despite the difficulties.

After the delivery of the Sunderøy, Magne Arvesen is the second freezer trawler that Gondan has delivered in the last six months, thus positioning itself as a reference in advanced vessels for the Norwegian fishing industry.
