The DP3 Cable Laying Vessel ‘Nexans Aurora’, said to be the state-of-the-art flagship of the Nexans fleet, has now been delivered from Ulstein Verft in Norway.

The 149.9m long and 31m wide vessel is designed for transport and installation of subsea high voltage cable systems and a variety of subsea construction tasks. Nexans Aurora is equipped with purpose-designed equipment for cable and umbilical transport and laying, including bundle laying, protection and jointing. The vessel will play a vital role in Nexans’ turn-key supply of subsea high voltage systems to support global electrification projects, including providing vital connections between countries and regions, offshore renewable solutions as well as electrification solutions for other offshore installations.

Ulstein Group CEO, Cathrine Kristiseter Marti, said: “I am proud to see the Nexans Aurora delivered on time despite the parallel handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, with all the implications, restrictions and delays being dealt with in areas such as production, sourcing, travel restrictions, quarantines and much more. It is an extraordinary achievement that Ulstein has managed to keep Covid-19 off their premises throughout the complete project.”

Nexans project manager Frode Beyer said: “This is a memorable day for the project team and for Nexans and I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who has contributed to this project’s success. We are now looking forward to bringing the Nexans Aurora out into the world to contribute to Nexans’ purpose 'Electrify the Future', for a greener place to be”.

The vessel will be named in a ceremony in Ulsteinvik on 8 June, before she will be leaving for her home port of Halden and Nexans’ subsea high voltage cables competence centre.
