Two more Robert Allan Ltd (RAL)-designed RAmparts 3200 ASD Tugs, 'PSA Marvel' and 'PSA Valkyrie' have recently been delivered to PSA Marine in Singapore from PaxOcean Engineering Zhuhai.

The new vessels are similar to PSA Thor and PSA Hulk, delivered form the same builder in 2018, but incorporate improvements, including a redesigned deckhouse and wheelhouse exclusively developed for PSA Marine. High performance tugs of this design are suitable for ship assist in berthing and un-berthing operations at ports/terminals, coastal towing operations and in addition are capable of escort service.

PSA Marvel and PSA Valkyrie are 32m long, 12m wide, of 496gt and are constructed to Lloyd’s Register notation LR ✠ 100 A1, Tug, Escort Tug, Fire Fighting Ship 1 with Water Spray, ✠ LMC, UMS, IWS.

Propulsion and auxiliary machinery comprise two Caterpillar 3516C main diesels with Schottel SRP 510 Z-drives, and two Cummins CSMTA11-IMO T2 diesel gensets.

Accommodations is outfitted to a MLC compliant standard for a crew of 10. The wheelhouse is designed with a single split control station which provides maximum all round visibility and high visibility to the bow and side fendering. The engine room features a small, acoustically isolated switchboard room.

On trials, the PSA Marvel and PSA Valkyrie met or exceeded performance expectations, recording bollard pull ahead of 83.5t and a free running speed  ahead of 13.5 knots.
