Renk AG, headquartered in Augsburg, has taken a key step toward the future by putting a new central warehouse facility into operation.

The company consolidated a number of previously rented individual warehouses with a total storage area of around 20,000 m2.

This step – as well as the relocation of the majority of incoming goods and their inspection to the new logistics and testing centre – will create space at Renk’s cramped production location for new activities, which supports the company’s growth strategy. The investment in the double-digit million range will enhance the profitability of the logistics processes and ultimately the competitive position of Renk.

Construction of the logistics facility, which covers approximately 23,000 m2, began in the spring of 2018 on a 6.7 ha plot in the community of Oberottmarshausen, 17 km south of the company’s headquarters. The majority of the space is taken up by a 15.000 m2 warehouse, which features a well-balanced design despite its size. The warehouse facilitates handling of a wide range of goods ranging from pallets up to 50-ton workpieces.

30 employees take care of the delivered goods. Quality monitoring plays an especially significant role according to Roland John, Head of Internal Logistics: “The majority of our employees in the new warehouse work on testing activities to ensure we can meet the high quality requirements placed on our products.”

From the perspective of the company’s management team, Oberottmarshausen offers sufficient space for later expansions, in addition to the logistics and testing premises, and is therefore a location that will help secure the Augsburg site.
