Having brought together maritime learning businesses Seagull and Videotel, Ocean Technologies Group (OTG) set its newly united team the challenge to work throughout 2020 on combining the strengths of these businesses into a new Ocean Learning Platform.

The new release draws on the resources, talents and combined strengths of established maritime learning brands, Seagull and Videotel as well as sister learning brands Marlins and MTS, collectively drawing on 100 years’ experience of providing high quality training materials to over a million seafarers.

Ocean Technologies Group has re-engineered its user experience design to deliver a more engaging and motivational platform. The Ocean Learning Platform is an enterprise level maritime learning management system designed to unite shore based and onboard training initiatives, online and across mobile devices. It delivers blended learning, assessment and competency management solutions that connect e-Learning and hands-on activity to improve knowledge, skills and behavioural development. At its core is a new Ocean Learning Library bringing together materials from across the brands, with every ship type and trade catered for. Customers will now have access to a comprehensive, diverse and media-rich blended-learning library.

Upgraded software-enabled features and the introduction of micro-learning and gamified content will further enhance crew engagement encouraging the adoption of personalised and immersive learning sessions. OTG’s customer base of over 1,400 ship owners, managers, training institutions, administrations and other stakeholders will be able to combine information and content specific training for their companies and fleets, to complement the library.

A new tool allows ship managers and crew managers to actively engage with seafarers on a range of interactive applications like employee experience, safety and operational matters and in-house campaigns. This provides an improved performance appraisal tool to improve proficiency and career development.

Caspar Atkinson (pictured), Chief Product Officer, OTG said, “The new Ocean Platform offers a compelling, engaging and comprehensive learning experience for the seafarer. It’s also the foundation for an exciting year of product innovation which we have planned. All this was made possible by uniting the collective strengths of Ocean Technology Group companies. For the first time these two world leading learning brands are available to the combined customer base on a single platform, delivered by a unified account team and streamlined contract.”

“This combination of our sister companies is adding significant added value to our shared customer base. In addition to our transformed Ocean Learning Platform, we are working with partner customers by offering our Tero Marine fleet management software and document management system in our suite of services. Our new platform is truly groundbreaking as it highlights the Group’s commitment to move beyond the traditional management of training results for compliance purposes to delivering transformational change in which the performance of seafarer and vessel can be measured and improved through greater data capture and data-driven decision making. It also permits increased customer flexibility when making particular content library and software choices most suited to their fleets,” said Manish Singh, OTG CEO.
