NYK MOVES TOWARDS DECARBONISATION ON MUSEUM SHIP

The Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) Group has introduced the start of its initiatives to shift to realise carbon neutrality by shifting to electricity from renewable resources to power operations on Hikawa Maru, an NYK museum ship moored in Yokohama.

Toshi Nakamura, senior general manager of NYK’s Green Business Group, introduced NYK’s effort to support the city of Yokohama achieve the goals of its Zero Carbon Yokohama plan, as well as NYK’s initiatives to shift Hikawa Maru’s electricity source to renewable energy by taking advantage of the blockchain technology of Minna-Denryoku.

In accordance with the NYK Group’s medium-term management plan Staying Ahead 2022 with Digitalization and Green, the group is working to achieve these aims through all its business activities.
