The NYK-operated coal carrier 'J Mare' has entered Tachibana port in Japan for the first time, transporting coal loaded at the port of Newcastle, Australia, to the Tachibana power plant of Shikoku Electric Power.

The 2229m, 81,732 dwt J Mare was built at Tsuneishi Heavy Industries (Cebu)and is equipped with a scrubber system to comply with the current IMO SOx emission regulation. J Mare is expected to produce lower CO2 emissions through the use of the energy-saving device MT-Fast, designed to improve propeller efficiency and jointly developed in cooperation with Tsuneishi Shipbuilding and NYK subsidiary MTI.
