Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has taken delivery of wood chip carrier ‘Southern Treasure’, with a cargo capacity of 4.3 million ft3, from Oshima Shipbuilding.

MOL will operate the 210m long vessel on transport of wood chips produced in Chile, South Africa, Australia, Vietnam, and other Southern countries, for Hokuetsu Corporation.

The vessel is equipped with a SOx scrubber and BWMS to comply with current environmental regulations. It features Oshima Shipbuilding's Seaworthy Bow - a bow shape that reduces the decline in vessel speed during adverse weather - hull design with improved stern shape, advanced flipper fins (energy-saving equipment to improve propulsion efficiency), and propeller boss cap fins. This environment-friendly vessel features an electronically controlled engine and low-friction bottom paint, achieving a significant reduction of CO2 emissions in comparison with conventional wood chip carriers.
