SEA-LNG, the industry body promoting liquefied natural gas as ship fuel, says that Ecobunker Shipping, a joint venture including SEA-LNG members YKIP, Uyeno Marine Service, and Sumitomo Corporation, are to launch of Japanís first LNG Bunker vessel.

This, says SEA-LNG, is a significant step forward in establishing LNG bunkering infrastructure in Japan. The expansion of LNG bunkering facilities globally affirms the case for LNG as a marine fuel, and one that is quickly gaining popularity within key maritime nations.

The two-hour launch ceremony for the 95.57m 4100gt vessel in Fukuoka shipyard is scheduled for 0810 JST on 4 Aug20, and the highlight of the ceremony is the blessing puja held in Shintoism tradition. As is tradition, the name of the vessel is not being disclosed before the ceremony.
