NYK Line of Japan has taken delivery of a new coal carrier, 'Lily Fortune', from Oshima Shipbuilding in Nagasaki.

The new coal carrier is the third ship to take the Lily Fortune name, which derives from the white lily, the symbolic flower of the former city of Haramachi in Fukushima prefecture. The vessel will transport coal to coal-fired power plants of Tohoku Electric Power mainly from Australia and Indonesia to generate electricity for Japan’s Tohoku region.

Lily Fortune is equipped with a scrubber system to ensure compliance with IMO 2020. In addition, the new Lily Fortune is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by about 4% compared to a standard coal carrier through the use of energy-saving devices such as an advanced rudder bulb and fixed fins that improve water flow generated at the aft-end of the vessel.

Principal particulars are: Length Overall 235.0m, Breadth: 43.0m, Summer Draught: 12.85m, Gross Tonnage: 52,318t, Deadweight Tonnage: 91,443t. The vessel will sail under the Marshall Islands flag.
