Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha ('K' Line) has placed an order for its first LPG fuelled LPG/Ammonia carrier with Kawasaki Heavy Industries, for delivery from the Sakaide yard in 2023.

The company has reached a time charter agreement for the 86,700m3 VLGC vessel with GYXIS Corporation (GYXIS). The vessel will be equipped with LPG dual fuel system and reduce the emissions of CO2 by about 20%, SOx by 90-100%, and NOx by 10-15% in LPG fuel mode in comparison with existing VLGCs.

The vessel will be designed to maximise fuel efficiency and achieve more than 30% of CO2 emission reduction in the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), and thus fully meet the IMO reduction target.

The 230m long vessel is additionally capable of transporting Ammonia, which is gaining attention as a zero-emission fuel, and as one of the methods to transport Hydrogen.
