Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha ('K' Line) has thoroughly revised its long-term environmental guideline document, ''K' Line Environmental Vision 2050 - Blue Seas for the Future', in order to strengthen its initiatives toward environmental preservation such as reduction of Greenhouse Gases (GHG).

When the guidelines were first published in 2015, they set forth longterm goals for 2050, and since then the company has engaged in reduction of environmental load, research and introduction of advanced technology. While most of the 2019 interim goals were met, including CO2 reduction and introduction of environmental flagship aims, there have been changes in society's requirements regarding environmental preservation.

The revised edition is based on the results of scenario analysis, recommended by TCFD, Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures and rearranged the targets into two main factors, ‘Decarbonisation’ and ‘Aim for zero environmental impact’, in setting new milestone goals for 2030.

'K' Line's decarbonisation goal is that by 2030 CO2 emission efficiency will improve by 50% compared with 2008, which surpasses the IMO 2030 target. The company will continue to research and develop its best solutions including new technologies toward its goal for GHG zero emission.
