Japanís first LNG bunker vessel has been successfully launched at the Sakaide Works of Kawasaki Heavy Industries.

The vessel is scheduled to be handed over in September 2020 and will be the first LNG bunker ship to be operated in Japan. After delivery, it will be based at JERA’s Kawagoe Thermal Power Station and commence ship-to-ship LNG bunkering business for LNG-fueled vessels.

The 81.7m, 4100gt vessel is owned by Central LNG Shipping Japan Corporation, a joint venture established in 2018 between “K” Line, JERA, Toyota Tsusho Corporation, and NYK Line. Another company established under the joint venture, Central LNG Marine Fuel Japan Corporation, will promote the LNG bunkering business in the Chubu (central) region of Japan. The expertise and strengths of each company will be used to provide LNG bunkering solutions in the Chubu region and promote a shift to marine LNG for ships.
