The Grimaldi Group has further expanded its fleet with the arrival of a new Pure Car & Truck Carrier (PCTC), named 'Grande New Jersey', fourth of a series of seven ships ordered from the Chinese Yangfan shipyard in Zhoushan.

With a length of 199.9m and a beam of 36.45m, the 65,255gt Grande New Jersey has a service speed of 19 knots and flies the Italian flag. With capacity for around 7,600 CEU (Car Equivalent Units) or, alternatively, 5,400 linear metres of rolling stock and 2,737 CEU,  she is among the largest PCTC ships on the market. The cargo space is designed for flexibility with four hoistable decks, so is able to load any type of rolling freight (cars, vans, trucks, tractors, buses, excavators, etc.) up to 5.3m high. With a total of 12 decks connected by a system of internal ramps, the risk of cargo damage during loading or unloading is minimized. The Grande New Jersey is fitted with a side ramp and a quarter stern ramp, the latter allowing the loading of freight units weighing up to 150t.

The Grande New Jersey is a technologically advanced design, equipped with devices that allow her to reduce harmful emissions and achieve high energy efficiency. She is fitted with an electronically-controlled MAN Energy Solutions main engine, complying with latest NOx emission regulations, as well as an exhaust gas cleaning system for reducing SOx emissions, and a ballast water treatment system complying with the latest regulations.

Group CEO Emanuele Grimaldi said: "With the arrival of the Grande New Jersey, the new vessel delivery schedule goes on for the Grimaldi fleet. This new unit is part of the fleet upgrading and renewal program launched by the Group in recent years with various orders for ultra-technological, highly flexible and increasingly eco-friendly ships.”

The Grande New Jersey, currently bound to the Mediterranean, will reach the port of Salerno at the end of September and will enter service on the weekly ro-ro service operated by the Grimaldi Group between the Mediterranean and North America, together with the Grande Baltimora, Grande Halifax, Grande Houston, Grande Mirafiori, Grande New York and Grande Torino.
