The Pure Car and Truck Carrier 'Grande Mirafiori' has recently been delivered to the Grimaldi Group from the Yangfan shipyard, in Zhoushan.

This is the second of seven sister vessels ordered by the Italian group from the Chinese shipyard. Grande Mirafiori has a length of 199.90m, beam of 36.45m, tonnage of 65,255gt and a service speed of 19 knots. The vessel flies the Italian flag, and is one of the largest PCTCs in the market, able to transport around 7,600 CEU (Car Equivalent Units) or, alternatively, 5,400 lane metres and 2,737 cars. Four hoistable decks offer the flexibility to load any type of rolling freight (trucks, tractors, busses, excavators, etc.) up to 5.3m high.

Loading is via a side ramp and a quarter stern ramp, the latter allowing the loading of units up to 150 tonnes. The configuration of the various decks and the system of internal ramps reduce to a minimum the risk of damages during the loading or unloading of rolling units.

Grande Mirafiori is fitted with an electronically-controlled MAN B&W main engine, meeting new NOx regulations, as well as an exhaust gas cleaning system for the abatement of SOx. A ballast water treatment unit will allow compliance with future international regulations.

"With the delivery of the Grande Mirafiori, our fleet is enriched by a new PCTC among the biggest, most innovative and environmentally sustainable in the world", said CEO Emanuele Grimaldi. "The name of this unit recalls the historic Fiat plant, which has celebrated its 80th birthday this year. We thus honour the long and fruitful partnership that has been linking us for half a century to one of the most important car manufacturers in the world”.
