Spanish shipyard Gondan has delivered a factory freezing stern trawler, 'Sunder°y', said to be one of the most advanced vessels of its kind, to Norwegian fishing and fish farm operator Prestfjord.

Designed by Kongsberg Maritime, the vessel has a length of 77.3m and a beam of 17m. Built in steel with aluminium superstructure, the stern trawler will operate in Arctic areas, in the Barents Sea and Svalbard waters. With an accommodation for 29 people, the freezing trawler will be operated for cod and prawns, as well as their processing. For this, it has modern automated fish processing equipment, including a meal plant, and a total hold capacity of 2250 m3. The vessel is classified by DNV GL with Ice class certification.

This is the second vessel built by Gondan for Prestfjord. The global situation generated as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic represented a challenge for both the shipwoner and the shipyard  which, in close collaboration, and with careful coordination and implementation of all necessary measures, in accordance with current Government regulations, successfully achieved the fulfilment of the contract.
