DNV GL DROPS GL TO BECOME DNV AGAIN

DNV GL DROPS GL TO BECOME DNV AGAIN

Wednesday, January 13, 2021

As from 1 March, DNV GL's brand name will change from DNV GL to DNV, the primary reason for the change of name being to simplify and thereby strengthen the classification society's global branding.

The DNV GL brand name was created with the merger between DNV (Det Norske Veritas) and GL (Germanischer Lloyd) in 2013. Each of the partner companies had a 150-year brand legacy as well as complementary strengths, so combining the two names was considered the right solution in 2013.

But according to Remi Eriksen, Group President and CEO: "It was not a name that rolled off the tongue, and many customers adopted the shorter ‘DNV’ for convenience. The name simplification is also a natural consequence of a successfully completed merger and of having operated as a fully integrated company for several years now. Although we simplify the name, we carry forward all the strengths of our proud legacy to build an even stronger trust mark."

A new logo will be introduced, very similar to the current familiar brand.

Eriksen continued: "Our ambition is to meet your need for trust and confidence when navigating the complexities of these transformations with unrivalled knowledge and expertise. We want to shape the future of assurance by offering you the best, most efficient and digitalized ways of delivering our services - be it classification, certification, verification, inspection, advisory, or digital solutions - and by being the partner you turn to for assuring your data, physical and digital assets, and processes. Our purpose remains the same – to safeguard life, property and the environment."
