Classification Society ClassNK is attempting to provide a comprehensive menu of services to support customers involved in the shipping business who wish to pursue zero-emission goals while planning and managing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in their daily business operations.

ClassNK has decided to extend these services under the 'Zero-Emission Transition Support Services' name, and as part of this extension has restructured this part of its organisation. The departments 'Zero-Emission Transition Center' and 'Marine GHG Certification Department' have been established to strengthen support to customers working on GHG reduction. Zero-Emission Transition Center develops overall business strategies related to GHG, and handles planning, implementation, and control of each business. Marine GHG Certification Department integrates responses to certification needs related to GHG reduction, including IMO short-term measures.

Services offered include:

  • GHG Emissions Management System Development & Certification
  • GHG Emissions Management Tools
  • GHG Emissions Verification & Assessment
  • GHG Emissions Reduction Support.

With more than 120 countries and regions having pledged to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and governments making GHG reduction targets more ambitious, sustainable finance for zero-emission projects is gaining more attention in economic activities. In the maritime industry, initiatives toward zero-emission are accelerating in both the public and private sectors, and the time has come to systematically manage GHG emissions from shipping., says ClassNK.

Details on the ClassNK Zero-Emission Transition Support Services are available on the Society’s website.
