The keel has been laid for the first of a series of two LNG powered,1A super ice classed, 5,800 lane metre series 'MegaRoRo' newbuildings for Wallenius SOL at the Yantai shipyard of CIMC Raffles.

The keel laying marks the start of actual construction of the vessel, and comes shortly after the first steel was cut for the second ship in the series.

The project has seen close cooperation between Wallenius SOL professionals, the project team of CIMC Raffles and its long-term subcontractors, Class Society Lloyd’s Register, ship designer Knud E. Hansen and various suppliers in order to minimise the impact of the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic.

Wallenius SOL expects these new vessels to join its fleet and start operation as soon as possible. Wallenius SOL is still operating its fleet with full capacity despite Covid-19 restrictions.

CIMC Raffles Assistant President and Project Director He Changhai said: “The punctual keel laying of the vessel solidate the whole vessel’s construction and delivery within schedule. Through working with owner side closely, I hope the whole project team including our partners and suppliers could continue the spirit of coordination and optimization,  and I am confident that we will deliver the series vessels to our client on time with satisfied quality finally.”
