At the same time as major class societies are stepping up their cyber-security offerings to the industry, Bureau Veritas (BV) has announced that its own cybersecurity system has detected a cyber attack on the society's servers.

In response, on 20 November, all the group's cybersecurity procedures were immediately activated. A preventive decision has been made to temporarily take the servers and data offline to protect clients and the company while further investigations and corrective measures are in progress. This decision generates a partial unavailability or slowdown of services and client interfaces.

Bureau Veritas’ teams, supported by third-party IT experts, are deploying all efforts to ensure business continuity and minimise disruption to clients, employees and partners. BV's incident response procedure has been triggered.

BV has actioned the relevant authorities, who will provide additional support to resume normal operations in the short term.
