INTERCARGO EXPRESSES CONCERN ABOUT COVID CASES ONBOARD

Monday, April 26, 2021

Dry bulk trade organisation Intercargo has issued a statement saying it is deeply saddened to hear reports of recent incidents on vessels where a significant number of crew members have been suffering from Covid and in some tragic cases, this has resulted in loss of life.

In addition to the unacceptable stresses from the crew change crisis, our seafarers continue to deal with the uncertainty and fear while serving on board ship in a Covid world. Urgent action is needed outside the maritime sphere. Intercargo calls for governments to co-ordinate vaccinations for seafarers as an urgent priority. Universal commitments for collective action are imperative to resolve this ongoing and developing humanitarian crisis at sea and to keep global trade moving.
